Wang Yilin, vice general manager of PetroChina’s parent, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), on Jun. 14 said that the new refinery, which will have an estimated annual refining capacity exceeding 10 million tons, will produce 6.5 million tons of refined oil per year, bringing RMB 28 billion in sales revenue. However, it is not known when the refinery will be opened. At present, China’s large refineries are mainly located in northeast and northwest areas, so the Chongqing refinery will help ease the supply shortage in the southwest area, said an expert at CNPC. CNPC plans to invest more than RMB 11 billion in Chongqing to increase annual output by 7 billion cubic meters per year by the end of 2010, sources reported. In addition, Chongqing will increase the number of oil terminals to 25 from the current 17 by 2020. The annual handling capacity is expected to hit 5 million tons.
