Chinese stocks up 0.45% in morning sessionPublished: 18 Mar 2009 00:25:19 PSTMar. 18, 2009 (China Knowledge) – Chinese stocks ended slightly higher in the morning trading session on Wednesday led by market heavy weights.The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, grew 0.45% or 9.88 points to close at 2,228.21 points in the morning session.The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange rose 1.05% or 88.16 points to stand at 8,478.02 points.Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857><PTR>, the nation’s top oil producer, gained 0.73% to close at RMB 10.98. While Asia’s largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386><SNP> edged up 0.83% to close at RMB 8.49.Nonferrous metal shares boosted the market in the morning session. Yunnan Copper Co Ltd<000878> added 6.55% to RMB 16.26. Western Mining Co Ltd<601168> went up 5.80% to RMB 10.03. Anhui Xinke New Materials Co Ltd<600255> ended 5.52% higher to RMB 4.78.China Eastern Airlines Corp Ltd<600115><670><CEA> rose 6.16% to RMB 5.00. Shanghai Airlines Co Ltd<600591> gained 3.48% to RMB 4.76.Financial stocks were weak. Bank of China<601988><3988> declined 1.16% to RMB 3.42. China Minsheng Banking<600016> dropped 1.03% to RMB 4.82. Shenzhen Development Bank<000001> edged down 0.57% to RMB 15.80. Industrial Bank<601166> went up 0.93% to RMB 21.25. Bank of Communications<601328><3328> lost 0.17% to RMB 5.97. China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628><LFC>, the country’s largest life insurance company, went down 1.09% to RMB 19.10, while Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318>, China’s second-largest insurer, decreased 0.89% to RMB 36.64.Auto stocks ended slightly higher. SAIC Motor Corp Ltd<600104> added 3.22% to RMB 9.95. Tianjin Faw Xiali Automobile Co Ltd<000927> went up 2.89% to RMB 4.98.
